Mentor the management of an ITI of your choice

An invitation to join Skills India 2020 as a mentor.

To improve standard of living of the people of India, what if IITians around the world could join hands with the industry and training institutions to transform the landscape of technical training in India…?

IITians for ITIs program:  A PanIIT program to drive excellence in technical training in India

IITians for ITIs is a PanIIT India nation building program launched to improve ITIs and drive sustainable excellence in India's vocational/technical training. The program will consist of many simultaneous projects at different ITIs around India.  The Program is predicated on the active involvement of local IIT alumni, who will work at the local level, mentoring an Institute's principal, its instructors, students and also liaise with the local industry. Other IITians will support the local IIT Alumni by taking up program administration, governance and monitoring, as well as by financially contributing for instructor training, equipment and student scholarships. PanIIT organziation will support the IITians by clearing roadblocks and by soliciting support. We have joined hands with CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) as a knowledge partner. A number of pilot projects are in progress. For recent developments see the program newsletter. For more information, see here.

300 ITIs all over India are being upgraded under PPP scheme to train certified and qualified technicians.
To these ITIs, under Public Private Partnership (PPP), central government has already given grants of Rs. 25 million each.  These are interest free loans with a 10 year moratorium.  In response, both CII and FICCI members have come forward to become industry partners. For each of these ITIs,  Institute Management Committees have been formed, and are chaired by a representative of the industry partner.

Transforming and upgrading an ITI  poses significant challenges. To meet these challenges, its Institute Management Committee (IMC), Principal and Staff deserve the best possible assistance for ITI governance and operations.

Skills India 2020 website provides individualized support to ITI management
PanIIT team has developed this web and e-mail facility as the companion website for the users of Blue Book. It is a collaboration website that provides individualized support in using the processes described in the Blue Book for ITIs. It enables you to exchange thoughts, ideas, experiences, and expertise with other Blue Book users and with practitioners, experts and specialists.

We need mentors to support ITI management in making most out of Blue Book and using Skills India 2020
At the ITI of your choice, the specific situation may be a little different and may have its own unique problems - situations that are not covered in the Blue Book. So in applying the processes and guidelines given in the Blue book, ITI management and staff may need more individualized support. The problem is that many IMC members, ITI principals and staff are not used to participating in such forums using web and e-mail based facilities.

Make a difference
As an e-Enabled professional, this is where you can make a difference. You can help them participate and get the most out of the processes given in the blue book. To support ITI management and staff, you will periodically talk to them over the phone, and post questions on the web-based forums or search for answers for them.  With your support, they can share problems with other participants and get their ideas and solutions. They can also gain access to best and latest resources for reference. Finally, they can get support in implementing innovative solutions and ideas.

What are ITIs:
ITI stands for Industrial Training Institutes and there are more than 5000 of these institutes in India. However, the quality of training at the ITIs is rather uneven. These ITIs produce 700,000 technicians each year. Improving their skill level would be a very powerful channel of advancing India's technical/manufacturing capabilities.
